Can I have a short biography of your career?

Initially I worked as a trainee manager in the Dunraven Arms in Adare where I experienced very department. After this job, I was hooked in the industry and decided to study Hotel Management & Business studies in GMIT.

Ask the Manager – Anne-Marie Traynor – Samuel Hotel

I have worked in a few different hotels in various management roles; Adare Manor, Clontarf Castle Hotel and The Radisson in Limerick. I joined Dalata in 2007 and haven’t looked back. I have been a General Manager in Maldron Hotel Limerick, Portlaoise, Citywest, Smithfieland. And was there for the opening of Maldron Hotel, Kevin Street, in Dublin.

As the first GM of The Samuel, were you involved in development?

Yes, I was involved with The Samuel Hotel from the early stages of development. I worked closely with the Project Management team on all aspects of the build. It has been great to watch it develop into this stunning design. My previous experience stood by me for the opening of The Samuel, especially being involved in the opening of Maldron Hotel Kevin Street.

Can you describe the Samuel and its atmosphere?

The Samuel is centrally located at Spencer Place in the rejuvenated North Docklands. It offers a sophisticated experience that is provided with sincere warmth and attention to detail. The spectacular ground floor interiors, facilities and 204 bedrooms are a welcome addition to the docklands.

As unique as our hotel is, so is our team and working with a close-knit team is my favourite part of working in this industry. The team at The Samuel each offer their own unique personality, character, and excitement to the hotel. They ensure that every guest gets a warm welcome when they arrive and experience genuine friendly hospitality during their stay.

How will you manage the expectations of business travellers and leisure guests?

At every opportunity, we make sure that our service standards are consistently high for every single guest. We understand different guests have different wants and needs. We are happy to provide directions and recommendations to leisure guests. Or source a quiet space in our lounge for the business guest preparing for a meeting.

How have you managed to staff a new property in Dublin?

Being part of Dalata Hotel Group was extremely beneficial for us in the recruitment process. The reputation that Dalata has for providing people with careers, not just short-term jobs, gave potential staff confidence in the company. It also helps that we are a brand-new, stunning hotel in the heart of Dublin.

What commitment does the Samuel have towards operating sustainably?

It’s every businesses responsibility to operate in a sustainable manner and we constantly have this on our minds. The Samuel Hotel has introduced sustainable policies across all departments. We are very lucky our building is a gold certified LEED building.

LEED certified buildings save money, improve efficiency, lower carbon emissions and create healthier places for people. They are a critical part of addressing climate change and meeting ESG goals, enhancing resilience, and supporting more equitable communities.

What type of outdoor dining does The Samuel have?

While The Samuel does not currently offer outdoor dining, The Samuel Bar & Grill is a vibrant, modern indoor dining area. Hotel guests, local business people and residents alike can choose to enjoy a fabulous meal or a refreshing drink in a stunning setting.

How are reservations doing this year?

We opened in April and so far, bookings have been very strong which is related to a lot of rescheduled events from COVID-19. We have been beyond delighted at how well the hotel has been received over the past four months and we hope to continue welcoming guests in the Autumn months ahead.

Are you optimistic for 2023, with the current forecast for an economic downturn?

It is our responsibility to plan for all eventualities, 2022 has been a year like no other and we will be ready to take on anything that 2023 throws at us.

Have you any special offers to entice guests to The Samuel?

We have a number of special offers whether you are planning a romantic weekend away, a city break or attending a concert. There is something for everyone. We have a fantastic offer currently called ‘Are you Curious? This includes a stay in a deluxe room, glass of bubbly and dinner in the stunning Samuel Bar & Grill followed by breakfast the next morning and a complimentary late check out.
