People Want More 3G Holidays – Clayton Hotels Research Shows

After months of enforced separation, the desire for Irish families to stay connected is causing sweeping changes to the priorities of holidaymakers booking a break in 2022.

There has been a surge in the popularity of 3G holidays – trips taken with three generations of one family. According to recent research by Clayton Hotels, a whopping 95% of us in Ireland believe multi-generational holidays benefit everyone.

The research suggests the trend is set to continue with:

  • Almost 57% of those surveyed have vowed to take more 3G trips during the next five years, which was particularly strong amongst the grandparents (63%).
  • 66% expecting multigenerational holidays to increase in popularity in coming years.
  • 58% say the pandemic has left them valuing family time more.
  • 37% already booked.

Award-winning travel writer, Fionn Davenport says the research shows a real shift from the aspiration of getting away from it all, to getting away with everyone. He said: “If the past two years have taught us anything, it is to cherish our families and the time we get to spend with them.”

So many of us have happy memories of childhood holidays spent with parents, grandparents (as well as uncles, aunties and cousins). The findings from Clayton Hotels show that this trend is here to stay and will even increase in the coming years.

Marketing Communications Manager for the Dalata Hotel Group Plc, which owns Clayton Hotels, Karen Halpin said the research shows the pandemic has left us craving quality time with the people who mean the most to us.

With 14 hotels throughout Ireland, there is a distinctive Clayton Hotel, each with its own individuality and character, in a prime location perfect for your multi-generational holiday.

“All of our hotels have the flexibility of interconnecting rooms and great family-friendly food for young and old alike. Clayton Hotels makes it easier for all generations of your family to enjoy some affordable luxury and make lasting memories,” she said.
