Ireland’s biggest family attraction, Dublin Zoo is a great day out for families, friends, couples and anyone visiting Dublin. The Zoo offers a journey of learning and discover about precious wildlife while also being a fun day out.

Located in the Phoenix Park in the heart of Dublin City, The zoo welcomes over one million visitors every year. It is one of the world’s oldest zoos, having opened in 1831. Animals at Dublin Zoo live enriched lives and are kept healthy and well fed. They are able to breed and raise their own young. Each animal’s enclosure contains vegetation, substrate and water features that reflect their natural environment.

Roam the African Savanna and spot giraffes, rhinos and zebras as you go. Travel through the Kaziranga Forest Trail to see the magnificent herd of Asian elephants and hang out with the gorillas at the new Gorilla Rainforest,. The Asian Forest is the newest development to open at Dublin Zoo where visitors can see Asian lion cubs, Sumatran tigers and Sulawesi crested macaques in a natural setting.

There are plenty of amazing animals to discover including orangutans, hippos, bats, rare monkeys, meerkats, chimpanzees, red pandas and reptiles to name but a few! Conservation is an important part of Dublin Zoo’s work, and as a registered charity the zoo relies on the generosity of friends and visitors to help fund the internationally acclaimed education, conservation and breeding programmes.

Dublin Zoo adheres to strict codes of practice in animal welfare and is run by caring professionals who devote their lives to the welfare and care of the animals. They are knowledgeable about the animal’s natural habitat, genetics, diet and social grouping. Dublin Zoo works in partnership with zoos all over the globe to make a significant contribution to the conservation of bio-diversity on earth.

Dublin Zoo is easily accessible by car or public transport and open all year round from 9.30am daily so be sure to get there early to pack everything into one fun filled family day! Last admission each day is one hour before closing time. In Winter look out for Wild Lights, the spectacular night-time experience at Dublin Zoo.
