Nicky Logue, General Manager, Intercontinental Hotel, Dublin

How did you feel when you heard the news that the hotel could reopen on June 2?

Really delighted that it was earlier than expected and that a clear date was given to hotels so that we can plan. I am so looking forward, with the team, to getting up and running and to welcoming back our many local guests.

What have you been doing during the lockdown?

I have actually been really busy. Each closing and re-opening involved a lot of work. Liaising with Managers on their particular departments, and moving as much business as possible to 2021 and now 2022. During the year we also took the opportunity to completely refurbish our ground floor and our food and beverage facilities. This completed the multi-million refurbishment the entire hotel has undergone under the owners MHL Hotel Collection since they acquired the hotel in 2015. I’ve also been busy communicating with the team and keeping them engaged. It was nice to have weekends off but Monday to Friday was no holiday!

Will the InterContinental Dublin have an outdoor dining area ready for June?

Yes- we are very fortunate to have extensive gardens including our stunning garden terrace and multiple outdoor spaces, which we are preparing at present. We are also working on a new covered area for outdoor dining this summer and our Chefs are busy creating new summer menus for diners.

How long do you think it will take until core business (US market) returns?

In reality, I think we will have some individual US leisure business from September but the large US groups, I do not see returning until March 2022.

What about the Horse Show – is it likely to go ahead this year, August 18 – 22, 2021?

We have been in discussion with the RDS and they are hoping to hold the Horse Show this August but without spectators. We are awaiting final confirmation but it would be great if it happens, and hopefully, 2022 will be back to near normal.

Any special offers to entice visitors back to your hotel?

We have some really attractive value-driven offers for couples, friends, or families with some complimentary upgrades. Our best offers are on intercontinentaldublin.ie

For example, a two-night luxury hideout stays with dinner for two on one evening and a 10 percent discount on Spa treatments and ESPA products will cost from €730 in July.
