This season’s UEFA Europa League Final takes place on Wednesday, May 22 at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium (or, the Dublin Arena, as UEFA is calling it for sponsorship reasons); pitting Liverpool’s quarter-final conquerors Atalanta, from Italy’s Bergamo region; and the German untouchables of Bayer Leverkusen.
Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen have just won the German Bundesliga without losing a match and are on course for a treble if they win on Wednesday and then, again, this weekend when they meet Kaiserslautern in the German Cup Final.
This is the first time since 2011 – when Porto beat Braga 1-0 – that Dublin has hosted the Europa League Final.
