The Galmont Hotel, Galway for Christmas

“Christmas isn’t just a day, it’s frame of mind” according to Santa in the Miracle on 34th Street (1947), and it certainly is a frame of mind in the Galmont Hotel and Spa in Galway. The hotel has been dressed for Christmas in a stupendous way. There must be at least a dozen huge Christmas trees, inside and out.

Spoil Your Family for Christmas at The Galmont Hotel, Galway

The tree in the lobby is at least 10 metres and the decorations above Reception are beautiful. Thousands of fairy lights twinkle, festive decorations and baubles shine.

Due to lockdown many of us may find ourselves with some holidays to use before the end of the year. A trip to Galway, before or for Christmas with all that is going on in the hotel and the city, will feel like a week away.

Last weekend the hotel had a trial run through the Christmas offering, for some guests to experience what it would be like to stay there for Christmas. It was brilliant, the atmosphere, the food, the lovely staff, the spa and pool, what more could you ask for.

Dinners in Marinas Restaurant began was with classic Irish smoked salmon, followed by turkey and ham with all the trimmings, and Christmas pudding. Bring your appetite, as everything was delicious and plenty of it. Guests are welcome to relax in Coopers after dinner for a night cap.

For families staying on Christmas Eve, the little ones will help the chefs lay out some carrots for the reindeers and a glass of milk for Santa. On Christmas day Santa will be calling first to the Galmont Hotel and he will have presents for all the children.

Apart from the delicious Christmas lunch, there will be treats during the day and a light supper in the evening. There is lots of festive live music, something we have all missed this year. There is also the spa to enjoy, it will be closed on Christmas day but open otherwise. Make a booking in advance if you would like to have a treatment, it is going to be popular this year.

Galway city is sparkling for the festive season with the Christmas Market back bigger and better than ever. The children will love all the activities at Eyre Square, not only the market but also the carnival, the Ferris wheel and a jaunt on Santa’s Polar Express.

The rooms in the Galmont Hotel are very comfortable and if you would like to push the boat out, upgrade to the fifth floor for spacious junior suites some with balconies overlooking the coast or the city. There is also an outdoor terrace at this level.

The two-night festive break includes B&B, dinner on Christmas Eve, lunch on Christmas Day, treats and supper from €420pps.

The three-night festive stay includes B&B, dinner, dinner on Christmas Eve, lunch on Christmas day, supper and also dinner on St. Stephen’s night from €555pps. Some supplements apply for children’s meals, check with the hotel.
