For a lot of Dubliners, the Busk is an event that has marked their festive calendars for over a decade. This much anticipated evening of joy has become a Christmas staple for Dubliners since its first outing. Many also fondly remember how stars like Bono, Sinéad O’Connor, Liam Ó Maonlaí, Imelda May and Hozier joined and lent their support to the cause.

The Busk is led by Glen Hansard. While the much-loved event was missing because of Covid-19 and its impact, it is now returning to the streets of Dublin.

It will take place this Christmas Eve from 5pm to 7 pm. On December 24th, a magical evening awaits everyone, bringing people together for a good cause, raising spirits, and having fun while doing so.

The Busk and other events, including the equally popular “Carolathon” are organised by the Dublin Simon Community.

Dublin Simon Community will host 24 hours of carolling in Dublin City Centre with its annual “Carolathon” on Friday 16th December on Grafton Street and Saturday 17th December in front of Clery’s on O’Connell Street. The range of choirs performing will include Pitch Perfect, Lucan Gospel Choir, Trinity Bells, Fingal Gospel Choir and more.

Members of the public will be able to donate to Dublin Simon Community via buckets, tap-to-donate machines, and wristbands with a scannable donation chip.

Catherine Kenny, CEO of Dublin Simon Community said:

We are putting everything we can into moving people out of homelessness and keeping them in their homes where they belong, but we need all the help we can get. The sales of this record will fund the continuation of our services and serve as a glimmer of hope to the over 6,000 people relying on our help.”

The Busk, an all-star charity live album recorded in St Patrick’s Cathedral in December 2021 was released on vinyl on Friday 9th December.

Recorded over two nights, the Busk gigs saw Bono, The Frames, Damien Rice, Lisa O’Neill and more teaming up to help the Dublin Simon Community. The album, priced €27.95, will also be available to purchase online and in-store from Golden Discs.

We think it’s a good way to begin the festivities, because Christmas is also about kindness and compassion, and the ability to give generously, and with love. You could gift the album to friends and family, and also attend the event in person.
