Slieve Donard Hotel Sold to US Investment Manager for €47m

County Down’s much beloved Slieve Donard hotel has been sold to US property investment giant AJ Capital Partners. After 50 years in the hands of Hastings Hotels Group, the five-star resort and spa was snapped up for €47 million.

The Hastings family is left in ownership of six northern Ireland hotels and a 50% share in Dublin’s Merrion Hotel.

Howard Hastings, managing director at Hastings Hotels, said: “AJ Capital Partners’s acquisition of the Slieve Donard Resort and Spa is encouraging news for hospitality and tourism in Northern Ireland and, in particular, for the burgeoning golf tourism industry here.”

AJ Capital Partners is responsible for the restoration and development of hotels across the the US and Britain. The new ownership is expected to positively impact tourism in the area, with golf tourism being a major focus due to its close proximity to the Royal County Down Golf Club.

Hastings Hotels have confirmed that all current staff will continue in their roles and all bookings and reservations made prior to the sale will remain in place. Vouchers and gift cards will also be honoured under the new ownership.
