Dublin’s New Year’s Festival – or NYF Dublin – is back with a bang this year, for the first time in 3 years – a sure sign the worst of the Covid crisis is behind us…and tickets are still available!
While, the main concert has grabbed all the headlines, this year’s event is bigger than ever and offers much more than just Westlife warbling at the North Wall. That said, Westlife, Gavin James and Lyra isn’t a bad line-up for the last show of the year.
In all, NYF 2023 covers 2 days – with celebrations covering both New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day – and includes two spectacular countdown events along North Wall Quay and a brand-new Festival Village for all ages.
A family-friendly matinee show takes place at 4pm on New Year’s Eve, followed by the main evening show from 8pm. As well as the main concert, there will be 6 stages along the quay featuring DJ sets and live music. (The likes of The Blizzards, Tolu Makay, Bradley Marshall, Katie Phelan, KIngfishr, Rachel Mae Hannon, Dara Quilty’s Bangers and RTE 2FMs Emma Power have all recently been confirmed to appear). The festival village will also include street entertainment and food stalls.
This will also be Westlife’s fifth big Irish appearance this year, following the band’s successful stints at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium and Cork’s Páirc Uí Chaoimh earlier this year and indoor arena runs in Belfast and Dublin this month.
Westlife said recently: “2022 has been an incredible year for us, seeing so many of our fans from around the world up close and personal, but there is always something extra special about a home crowd, so as we head into 2023 let’s do the countdown together, in style, at Dublin’s New Year’s Festival Dublin. It’s going to be an unforgettable party”.
Speaking about the event last month, Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media Catherine Martin said: “I am very pleased that NYF Dublin will return this year with a full programme of arts, music and events taking place in Dublin City across New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. This is the first full-scale New Year’s Festival to take place in the capital since 2019 and is a flagship event for the Winter in Dublin campaign, which will encourage domestic and international visitors to celebrate in Dublin this New Year’s.”
Orla Carroll, Director of Product Development at Fáilte Ireland said: “It is fantastic to see New Year’s Festival Dublin return this year with the iconic Westlife as our headline act, and further acts to be announced over the coming weeks. New Year’s Festival Dublin is a hero event under Fáilte Ireland’s Winter in Dublin programme and plays an important role in establishing Dublin as a must-visit destination for a winter break and to celebrate the New Year. NYF Dublin is a 2-day spectacular which has something for everyone, and we look forward to welcoming visitors from at home and abroad to ring in the New Year in our capital city.”
