Experience the Wild Atlantic Way in a Seaweed Bath in Connemara

A seaweed baths facility opened at the Seaweed Centre in Leitir Mealláin (Lettermullen) in Connemara this month.  The community-led Co-op Comhar Chuigéal Teo brings daily harvested seaweed for bath treatments from a local island. Because seaweed is believed to help detoxify and soothe the body, the baths will have a therapeutic effect.

The Seaweed Centre is on the edge of Europe and the shores of the Wild Atlantic Way.  Seaweed bathing can be an antidote to the stresses of recent lockdowns. So the introduction of the Seaweed Centre development will enhance the tourism infrastructure of the Connemara Gaeltacht.

The seaweed baths are indoors and will in the future have an outdoor facility, so you can enjoy the views.  It is the ideal way to experience the Wild Atlantic Way and the stunning scenery of Connemara.

It will also bring together the natural resources of the Connemara landscape, combined with the vision of an inspired community and talented therapists.  Seaweed baths offer an excellent organic, health and wellbeing product to visitors to the region. It is an hour from Galway City.

Development project for Seaweed Centre

The phase two of the development project at the Seaweed Centre, will create two new full time jobs and two part time jobs in the rural Gaeltacht community. This follows an investment project by BIM’s FLAG (Fisheries Local Action Group)and locally sourced finance from Comhar Creidmheasa Cholmcille.

The Seaweed Centre will open Thursday to Monday for July and August 2021, offering single and double bath treatment rooms. Seaweed bath treatments start from €30 for a single bath and €60 for two people in a twin bathroom, for an hour.

There is also a steam room and massage therapy room with skilled and knowledgeable therapists. A full range of deep therapy body massage treatments are available from €50. The Seaweed Centre carries a variety of body products from Connemara Seaweed Products, Rí na Mara and Voya Brands.

The Seaweed Centre has a café with outdoor seating and guests will receive fresh juice and fruit salad bowls after treatments. To book your treatment, click here.
