It has been a very busy time at Fitzgerald’s Woodlands Hotel in Adare in Co. Limerick. There has been no grass growing under feet here with lots of planning for the reopening on June 2.
Garden Delights
Head gardener Caoimhin has been busy planting a sensory vegetable maze in the hotel’s grounds. A first for an Irish Hotel. The curving maze will allow you to smell the plants and listen to the bees, while solving the puzzle of the maze.
It will be planted not just with a wide selection of vegetables and herbs, but also the giant King Kong sunflowers that grow to more than three metres. Waving sweetcorn will also tower around the maze. There will be a number of entrances and you can compete with family and friends to get to the middle first and ring the bell.
The Woodlands Hotel grows much of the produce used in the hotel’s restaurants in the on-site Mary’s Organic Garden.
The Treehouse
With the outdoors being so important for tourism this year, the hotel has been very busy making the Treehouse cabin into a big comfortable area for guests. It will be open all day from 10am to 6pm serving, breakfast, lunch and dinner with late opening on Friday and Saturday to 8pm.
The Treehouse will also have an ice cream parlour and a bar serving beers on tap and cocktails. Your comfort will be ensured with colourful canopies, heating, music and television. It sounds like it will be a great spot to park yourself for an afternoon or two.
The Revas Spa
Orla, the spa manager, will take you on a journey through the improvements in the Revas Spa where there are big plans afoot. The spa is having a transformation while the hotel is closed and will reopen with enhanced facilities and treatment rooms. Outside there will be a whole new area for relaxing and improving your health.
It will be completely reimagined. There will be a glass-fronted solarium, outdoor showers and heated loungers under a pergola.
A new Caldarium, a heated chamber with salt inhalation will be beneficial for health. There will be lots of nice outdoor seating for people to spend time with family and friends.
