Wild Connections for Children at Birr Castle

In the summer children love to be outdoors and learn new and fun things to do. The Wild Connections Summer camps at Birr Castle Demesne will take place over two weeks in July and are ideal for introducing children to nature.

The fun camps allow children to connect with nature in the great outdoors in one of Ireland’s most extraordinary settings. So, whether you live close by, or plan to holiday in Offaly there are a wonderful range of activities to do. They include pond dipping, bird watching, nature crafts, wellness walks and a Flora Trail. 

Summer Camp Dates

Camps dates area July 4 – 8 and July 11 – 15 from 10am to 2pm each day and spaces are limited. Suitable for children aged 5 to 12 years.  Pre booking is essential and cost of €60 per child.  For more information and booking see here.

Other activities at Birr Castle Demesne include, 10 kms of walks in parklands and beautiful formal gardens. Play in Ireland’s Tallest Treehouse. Discover the Science Galleries, and the Great Telescope, once the biggest the world. See rivers, lakes, a waterfall and over 5,000 species of trees and plants to admire.

The Birr Telescope

This fascinating 60 minute guided tour focuses on the rich heritage and phenomenal achievements of the Parsons Family. They include science, astronomy, photography, engineering, and botany. The Parsons family have lived at Birr Castle for more than 400 years.

After your tour enjoy free time in the 120-acre parkland and award-winning gardens or have a snack in the café. Guided walk are on Fridays and Saturdays up to September at 12.00 and 15.00.
