The beautiful scenery of Mayo and the Wild Atlantic Way is wowing viewers across Great Britain – in the romantic comedy Wild Mountain Thyme, which is being launched today (30 April) by Lionsgate, on all major premium video-on-demand retailers in Great Britain.

To coincide with the release of the film, the behind-the-scenes film is being shared with Tourism Ireland’s fans and followers on social platforms in Great Britain.

And there was high praise for Ireland from the two stars of the films – and two of the biggest names currently on the big or small screen.

To celebrate the film’s connections with Ireland, Tourism Ireland worked with the Irish co-producers, Port Pictures, to create a short behind-the-scenes film – in which writer-director John Patrick Shanley and actors Jamie Dornan, Emily Blunt, Christopher Walken and Jon Hamm describe and praise the special locations chosen for filming.

Of filming in Ireland, Emily Blunt said: You just feel completely transported. You are in this other world. It’s a fairytale – there’s something magical about it,” while her co-star John Hamm – Don Draper from Mad Men – said, “when you get an opportunity to film over here in Ireland, it’s once in a lifetime.”

Filming took place here in 2019 in Mayo – at various locations, including Hiney’s of Crossmolina, The Thatch Inn in Crossmolina and Mount Falcon Estate in Ballina. The film also features Nephin Mountain and some of the spectacular scenery of the Wild Atlantic Way.

Niall Gibbons, Chief Executive of Tourism Ireland, said: “We are grateful to Port Pictures for their generosity in agreeing to make this behind-the-scenes film with us and for the opportunity to collaborate with Lionsgate on the release of Wild Mountain Thyme in Great Britain. The film will bring the magnificent scenery of Mayo and the Wild Atlantic Way to the attention of viewers across Britain, helping to keep the beauty of Ireland to the fore and inspiring people for their future visit.”
