Easter is falling a little later this year; the brighter evenings and warmer temperatures offer the perfect opportunity to enjoy some outdoor family time. Ballyhoura Country, on the borders of counties Limerick, Cork and Tipperary, is an area of green pastures, woodlands, hills and mountains.

Easter Egg Hunts

Friday 15 April, Croom will be full of eggcited kids, ready to hunt down four coloured eggs in their pursuit of not only a chocolate egg, but the elusive Golden Egg.

Rockbarton Farmers’ Market plays host to a fun egg hunt for the kids on Sunday 10 April. On 9 April at the same venue, the kids can get hands on and learn about flowers, seeds and planting at the Children’s Gardening Classes. 

Hiking and Biking 

With Ballyhoura emerging as one of the top hiking and biking destinations in Ireland – it’s the perfect opportunity to spend time in nature. There are some wonderful family-friendly walks to enjoy. You can even download the Ballyhoura Trails Guide App (in Apple store and Google Play).

Family favourites include walks at Ballyorgan, Keale River, Canon Sheehan Loop, Clare Glens, Doneraile Park and Lough Gur. The largest mountain biking trails in Ireland are in Ballyhoura – all 98kms of them. These are a fun way to enjoy family time, with all levels from beginners available. Equipment can be hired so all you need is your enthusiasm. 

Markets in Full Swing

Ballyhoura’s many markets are now in full swing too, and Easter themes abound. In Kilfinane, the Scoil Pól Easter Market is on Sunday 10 April from 10am-3pm. Granagh Community Centre hosts its Easter Craft & Food Market on Saturday 16 April from 10am-2pm. The regular morning famers’ markets are also running through the Easter Season – Castletroy, every Friday and Slí Eile, every Saturday.
