11 Unique Leinster Airbnb Staycations for the Summer

I think we are all getting frustrated, unnerved and simply bored of the same surroundings each morning and evening on repeat like an all to real sequel to ‘Groundhog Day’. With the recent news of restrictions easing up in Ireland and we are all allowed travel within our entire county instead of being restricted to just our 5km radius, I thought it would be a perfect time to showcase some of the catalogue of beautiful options we have at our disposal and to orchestrate a list of some of the more unique and different places, wherever you are based in Leinster, you can stay via Airbnb.

Starting off with something quite unique we have the ‘Sunny Barger’ houseboat located on the Grand Canal Docks. Holding up to four guests it is definitely a different feel on a staycation, romantic getaway or place to take the family on a new experience. With everything you need within the houseboat like a wood-burning stove, a living room with a tv, three bedrooms and a kitchen equipped with an oven and grill it is a go to for Dublin natives this summer, and just incase you forgot anything on the way, only a 20-minute walk to Grafton Street.

Carlow:

Stable House is a lovingly transformed former Victorian stables and coach house and is located 2.5 km from the heritage village of Borris, benefiting from magnificent and stunning views of the Blackstairs Mountains. This is a quiet and peaceful location, conveniently located to explore the South Leinster Way or meander along the River Barrow. The accommodation consists of three ensuite bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a living room with large sofas and comfy armchairs. A unique farm experience as a getaway for the weekend, or your family trip this summer.

Kildare:

If you want to experience something different, I would say ‘The Hideaway’ might tickle your fancy. Beautiful, ensuite Shepherd Hut with private wood fired hot tub, located just on the border of Kildare and West Wicklow. Stunning and quirky, tastefully decorated self catering accommodation, stay in a traditional Shepherd Hut in the heart of Ireland’s Ancient East.
Relax, unwind and re-charge in the peaceful, unspoiled countryside. With One bed and a quaint little living area it is ideal for a quick weekend getaway.

Kilkenny:

One of my favourite stays is the ‘The Loft’. The Loft has an industrial minimal yet funky feel with its colour design of blues and yellows. You have access to your own private garden with an outdoor seating area and fire pit. Enjoy the evening looking out of the large French style windows to the stunning Comeragh Mountains or enjoy your evenings out in the garden by the fire pit. The Loft is a one-bedroom property with a cozy little living space, so I recommend a couples getaway for this one. A very quirky stay for the people who are bored of the norm.

Laois:

A beautifully renovated stone cottage on an idyllic Alpaca farm, in the foothill of the Slieve Bloom mountains. This two bedroom oasis has the romance of an old cottage, combined with a modern comfortable finish that will leave you wanting to stay for longer. The Lodge is in the corner of the farmyard with access to all paddocks and adjacent to a country lane.
Guests are encouraged to access all the paddocks to engage with the Alpacas! This is a very eccentric site due to the alpacas roaming around, another go-to for animal lovers.

The Stables at Higginstown House are unlike anything on this list so far, Its for the suave and more modern Guest. Although being more less quirky as some of the other on

this list, once I saw the way this place looks, I had to put it in. Originally converted from a barn, I think the owners have done a fabulous job on turning the old into the new. The location of the upgraded barn is also great, having some quite fun activities to do surrounding it.

West Meath:

The Stables are in a forest area, lovely countryside and a short stroll to the lake. Sitting room, dining area with full kitchen area. This reconstructed barn is a perfect staycation for you and up to five of your friends to go and chill out for a weekend, only a short walk to the beach and with a very relaxed courtyard with some lovely outdoor seating. With a bit of sun it sounds like the perfect place to sit out with friends and a few beverages.

Wexford:

This cottage is a lovely converted stone-built stable block in a peaceful rural location. Situated a few minutes from the Tintern Abbey and within 15 minutes of the lovely beaches at Duncannon, Cullenstown and Fethard. This revamped cottage is another example of a beautifully reimagined idea executed perfectly. Another cottage which is one bed, one bedroom so it is most suited for a couple. Both Wexford town and New Ross are within easy reach as are the popular tourist destinations of Hook lighthouse, Dunbody Famine ship and the Irish National Heritage Centre.

This unique property is all about traditional Irish culture, quiet, cozy and romantic. This compact cottage can entertain six guests with three bedrooms, 4 beds and a single bathroom. ‘Nanny Murphy’s Cottage’ has a stunningly adorable living space.
