Today, 1 March, sees the opening of the first new hotel in Ireland this year and also the first five-star hotel in Tipperary. The Cashel Palace Hotel, in the Golden Vale opens its doors to guests after four years of restoration and renovation.
The Cashel Palace Hotel is spectacularly located beside the medieval Rock of Cashel. It was built in 1732 for the Bishop of Cashel, in the grand Palladian style, before becoming a hotel in 1962. For decades the hotel welcomed high-profile guests and visitors to Ireland’s premier horse-breeding county.
Cashel Palace Hotel was once owned by Vincent O’Brien, the legendary Irish racehorse trainer and the new owners are his daughter Mrs Susan Magnier and her family. The Magniers own the nearby Coolmore Stud, the most successful thoroughbred breeding operation in the world.
The entire design process for the renovation, has been directly overseen by Mrs Magnier with the Emma Pearson Design Studio in London, and Del Buono Gazerwitz Landscape Architects.
Hotel Will Bring Visitors To Cashel
The General Manager of the hotel, Adriaan Bartels, with a career at the Cliff House in Waterford and Sheen Falls Hotel in Kerry, has been managing the redevelopment of the hotel for more than three years.
In an interview with Tipp MidWest Radio, Mr. Bartels said:“The hotel will bring thousands of visitors every year from Ireland, Europe, North America and elsewhere to Cashel.
The location in the town is a major advantage as we want our guests to enjoy an authentic experience of a vibrant Irish market town like Cashel with its strong tourism credentials.”
The hotel will have 42 rooms including eight suites. The Head chef, Stephen Hayes, will oversee the dining outlets at the hotel. They include the gourmet Bishop’s Buttery, afternoon tea, and the Terrace casual dining. The hotel also owns the bar, Mikey Ryan’s, where casual dining will be available.
The famous cellar bar will have an impressive wine vault and the convivial Guinness Bar. And there will also be a private Residents Cocktail Bar on the ground floor overlooking the enclosed gardens.
The Cashel Palace Hotel has been carefully restored and includes the addition of a leisure centre with spa, swimming pool and seaweed baths. The spa will use products from the Voya, Bamford and Skin by Olga ranges. The international luxury hospitality company Relais et Chateaux will be marketing the hotel. Book here.
