Pantomimes have become a staple of the Christmas season in Ireland. Going to the ‘panto’ with friends and family will be a fond memory for many Irish children as they grow up. The smell of the fresh popcorn and the bright lights of the glowsticks as you enter the theatre is always a treat. “He’s behind you!” the audience would scream as the noble hero would confusingly scramble around the stage as the villain would get closer and closer.

Olly, Polly and the Beanstalk, The 3Olympia Theatre
Olly, Polly and the Beanstalk is a spin-off of ‘Jack and the Beanstock‘ and follows the story of Olly and Polly and their adventure climbing the beanstalk as they encounter a few ups and downs along the way.
With a few familiar faces with the likes of Ryan Andrews (Dancing With The Stars finalist, Fair City), Maclean Burke (Fair City’s Damo), James Patrice (RTE reporter and social media superstar), Rob Vickers (Les Miserables), Erin McGregor (Dancing With the Stars) and Zoe Talbot (Riverdance) there is some great Irish Star power for everyone.

The Little Mermaid, The Gaiety Theatre
This year’s Pantomime at the Gaiety is special, it is the 150th anniversary of the Gaiety as they opened their doors on the 27th of November 1871.
The Little Mermaid follows the story of Ariel the mermaid as she longs for the chance to be able to live on land instead of being confined to the sea. With many ups and downs on her journey to land, it’s sure to be a night to remember.

Aladdin, The National Stadium
This year’s panto at the National Stadium is the story of Aladdin. Aladdin follows the story of Aladdin, a working-class boy who stumbles across and a magic lamp with a magic genie that grants him three wishes. Follow the story as Aladdin encounters some obstacles on his journey to win the heart of Princess Jasmine.

Red Riding Hood, The Helix Theatre
At the Helix Theatre this year celebrates the story of Red Riding Hood. Follow Red on her adventures as she tries to realise her true destiny and save Fairy tale Land from the clutches of the darkness.
This is a special show as they have sensory shows available at different times. This allows for children with special needs to attend the show. Some of the differences made to the show include house lights being left on, sound levels compressed and strobe lights removed.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Liberty Hall Theatre
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs follows the story of Snow White. Jealous of Snow White’s beauty, the wicked queen orders her murder, but later discovers that Snow White is still alive and hiding in a cottage with seven friendly dwarfs. Will Snow White dethrone the Wicked Queen or will the Wicked Queen become the fairest in the land?
