To mark the 37th anniversary of Phil Lynott’s passing (January 4, 1986), there are a number of tribute nights happening around the country this week.
There’s still just about a chance to get a flavour of one of the big ones. ‘The Dedication – Remembering Phil Lynott’ is a 2-nighter at Dublin’s Button Factory, in Temple Bar, which started on Wednesday (Jan 3) and finishes tonight (Thur, Jan 4). Appearances from former Thin Lizzy drummer Brian Downey, with his current band Brian Downey’s Alive and Dangerous, and fellow former members Eric Bell and Darren Wharton will feature along with other surprises; the whole event being curated by Vibe for Philo organiser Roddie Cleere.
If you’re reading this after the Button Factory event has passed, you can catch Dizzy Lizzy – viewed as being the best Thin Lizzy tribute band on the planet – playing at Dublin’s Workman’s Club, on Wellington Quay, this Friday (Jan 5); followed by The Annual Phil Lynott Remembrance Gig at Monroe’s Live on Dominick Street in Galway.
