As panto season approaches, another option for family entertainment has popped up for a run in The Gaiety Theatre and throughout other venues in Ireland.
Nutcracker Sweeties, a remake of the Tchaikovsky Christmas Classic, retells the story of Clara and Fritz.
The Ballet Ireland production promises to be a little bit more modern, with less traditional dance and more movement throughout.
Ballet Ireland was established in 1998 by Gunther Falusy and Anne Maher, each spring and autumn the company performs in large-scale theatres in Dublin and throughout Ireland. Touring allows audiences throughout the country to access and enjoy professional ballet. The other aim is to inspire young and talented students from every county.
This version is set in a department store in Dublin, Ciara and her brother Fionn wander off from their parents where the magic of The Nutcracker begins. The pair are rescued by the Nutcracker Doll who comes to life transporting them to the magical Kingdom of The Sweets where the two meet the majestic Sugar Plum Fairy.
The two are rescued by the Nutcracker doll who comes to life before they are surrounded by a glorious blizzard of snowflakes. The Sugar Plum fairy greets them leading Ciara into the kingdom of sweets where the beautiful Christmas windows come to life.
Choreographed by Morgann Runacre-Temple, this beautiful production of the festive classic performed by a cast of world-class dancers will appeal to audiences of all ages with its fairy-tale magic, gorgeous costumes and a re-imagined score. A tale of wondrous adventure that combines to form one of the most delectable Christmas confections imaginable.
This production has broad appeal and is due to be a heart-warming hit with the balletomania, as well as everyone with a mere passing interest in ballet.
