It has been a long time without music festivals and it is one thing we have missed for the past two years. This summer some old favourites and some newcomers will be happening. There are a lot of great events with fantastic musicians, happening around the country. So dust off your tent and have a look at the travel2ireland picks for June.
Music Festivals are Back – What’s On In June
Wild Roots, Hazelwood, Sligo 3 – 5 June
Set in the ancient wood of the Hazelwood in Sligo, Wild Roots is more than a festival, but also includes mesmeric experiences in art, music and adventures. Big names appearing include Damien Dempsey, The Blizzards, Paddy Casey, DJU Jenny Greene, the Galway Street Club, the Dublin Ukulele Collective and lots more over the three days.
The comedy line-up will include Kevin McGahern, David McSavage, Sinead Quinlan, Emma Doran, Owen Colgan, the Wild Geaze and more hysterical comedians.
Mouth-dropping entertainment will be provided by a variety of very talented artistes. Expect to see some amazing aerialists, pole artistes, jugglers, flaming hoops and magical tricks and the Sligo Popup Theatre. Details here.
Beyond the Pale – Glendalough, Co Wicklow, 10 – 12 June
A new boutique festival will be happening this summer at the Glendalough Estate, in County Wicklow, with only 5,000 tickets. The music line-up will include the Mary Wallopers, Soulé, Bonbo, Orbital, Lisa Hannigan, Kollektiv and lots more.
For foodies, the Beyond The Plate, sessions curated by Ali Dunworth curator of Eatyard amongst many food and beverage projects. Apart from all the great food she’ll be curating, she’ll also be pulling together a line-up of talks and demonstrations from some of Ireland’s leading food and beverage personalities. Rory Gallagher Tribute, Ballyshannon, Co Donegal, 2 – 5 June
Blues-rockers are going to love this festival in the birth town of Ireland’s most famous guitarist. He played with the best of the best and had a worldwide reputation. The festival will begin at 1pm on 2 June at the statue of the man himself with an outdoor gig with Mark Black and friends. Music events will take place in the festival Big Top and around the town in various pubs. All the open-air concerts and pub gigs are free.
There is a huge line-up for the four days including artistes coming from the UK and US to celebrate the music of this best-known Irish rocker. Details here.
Body and Soul, Ballinlough Castle, Co. Westmeath, 17-19 June
This cultural and artistic festival is returning to its creative roots in 2022, halving its numbers and doubling its curatorial commitment. It will be fused with the signature style of decadence, discovery and play. Expect secret states to forest feast, intimate performance and moments of transcendence. Sea Sessions – Bundoran, Co Donegal, 17-19 June
What a combination, surfing and music at the Sea Sessions in Bundoran Co. Donegal. The Sea Sessions has a huge variety of artistes and entertainers. The list this year is an incredible line-up of Irish and international musicians. It includes Kodaline, Lyra, Basement Jaxx, Wyvern Lingo and Thumper. Details here
