The Rosehill 1831 Bar at the stylish 4-Star Hotel Kilkenny has just undergone a complete renovation, the result of which sees its decor hark back to its original heritage.

Originally named Rosehill House, the bar at the now-named Hotel Kilkenny has been a part of Kilkenny’s history and heritage since 1831 – originally as a family home by the famous architect and artist William Robertson.

Robertson – throughout his lifetime – was responsible for restoring many of Kilkenny’s most prestigious buildings, including the Courthouse, the Gaol and Kilkenny Castle. He is credited with designing and overseeing the construction of some of Kilkenny’s finest homes including Jenkinstown and Orchardton House. Many of Robertson’s sketches and drawings are preserved in The Royal Society of Antiquaries.

Keeping true to its origins through the design stages, and now following a complete renovation the Rosehill 1831 Bar boasts bespoke furniture, stunning signature wallpaper and hand-crafted light fittings created by local artist Dainius Varnelis. Throughout the redesign and redevelopment, a series of local companies, designers and suppliers were engaged. The result is a luxurious yet cosy atmosphere where guests can relax and enjoy a brand new signature cocktail menu and a new lunch and dinner menu featuring an array of locally sourced produce.

Hotel Kilkenny is located just a 10-minute walk from the centre of Kilkenny with easy access to the Kilkenny Castle Parklands and River Nore walks and its Medieval Mile it is a definite must-visit.
