BakeBox – Where you Can Treat Yourself to Galway’s Best Coffee, Pastry or Sandwich!

If there’s one place in Galway that can capture your heart (and taste buds) in an instant, it’s BakeBox. This family-run bakery has a warmth and charm that makes every visit feel like a special, cosy treat – and that’s before you even taste the food – here’s our review!

With such a huge selection of sweet and savoury treats, super-friendly staff, and state-of-the-art coffee, it’s no wonder BakeBox is a go-to for locals and visitors.

First Impressions

To start, the sweet selection at BakeBox is absolutely massive. When we walked in, the display was fully stocked with freshly baked goodies, making it nearly impossible to choose. Among the highlights:

  • Pistachio Croissant – Buttery, flaky, and packed with a rich pistachio filling. An absolute must-try!
  • Cream Cheese Cups – It’s in the name; deliciously creamy! These came with different toppings, like biscoff or fruit.
  • Pastries and Cakes – Fresh, delicious, and beautifully crafted. If you’re a cake lover, you’ll be happy to know that you can also commission custom cakes here – and they’re handmade by BakeBox’s skilled team.

Let’s not forget about the savoury side, with these favourites:

  • Soup of the Day – A warming bowl of homemade soup, perfect for those cooler afternoons. I had the pleasure of trying the vegetable soup, which was rich and creamy.
  • Artisan Sandwiches – Packed full of fresh, high-quality meats and veggies, these sandwiches are both filling and fairly priced.
  • Sourdough Bread – BakeBox bakes a variety of their own sourdough loaves, perfect to take home. And here’s the exciting news: they’re opening their own dedicated bakery by the end of the year, so even more delicious bread is on the way!

Coffee That Packs a Punch

Coffee at BakeBox is an experience in itself. They have one of two state-of-the-art coffee machines in Galway, designed to brew coffee faster, better, and tastier. And you can feel the difference. From iced lattes to warm cappuccinos, every coffee we tried was deliciously creamy with just the right kick of caffeine. Plus, everything is customisable to suit your taste – so if you’re picky about your coffee (looking at myself here), BakeBox has you covered!

Aesthetic & Relaxed Vibe

Beyond the food and coffee, BakeBox also scores high in my book for its aesthetic appeal. The bakery is beautifully designed, with a modern but cosy atmosphere. Speaking with the owner, the bakery underwent a series of renovations leaving it sparkling new – and you can feel it! There’s good seating options inside, including a window nook with some super plush pillows, so no matter if you’re grabbing something to-go or coming in for a break, you’re sure to love the vibe (and the food)!

The Full Experience

The location is of course another big plus! Bakebox is located at 21 Abbeygate Street Lower, right in the centre of Galway, so ideal for anyone shopping, sightseeing or just in need of a pick-me-up!

Behind The Scenes

During my visit to BakeBox, I had the chance to take a peek behind the scenes, and let me tell you – it was not only mouthwatering but super insightful into their process. In the back, cakes were being carefully piped, cupcakes were getting their final sprinkle of decorations, and fresh sandwiches were being stacked with wholesome, local ingredients. Seeing everything from this angle really highlighted that BakeBox is a family business full of passion and care for everything they cook up, as well as their customers.

Speaking of, the team at BakeBox is just as sweet as the food. The staff are incredibly kind, welcoming, and clearly love what they do. If you’re popping in for a quick bite or ordering a custom cake for a special occasion, you’re sure to feel that personal touch that makes every visit memorable!

What’s Next for BakeBox?

If you’re a bread lover, there’s even more reason to get excited. BakeBox is expanding, with plans to open their own dedicated bakery by the end of the year. That means even more fresh sourdough and artisan bread options coming soon!

The Verdict – BakeBox is an Absolute Local Gem

When it comes to finding a bakery that hits all the right notes – from quality food to friendly service and a warm, inviting space– BakeBox absolutely shines. If you’re a fan of savoury bites, sweet treats, or just want a really good coffee, this family bakery has it all.

Ready to experience it for yourself? Make sure to stop by BakeBox the next time you’re in Galway – you won’t be disappointed.
