As the emerald isle gears up to celebrate St. Patrick’s Weekend, there’s no better place to soak up the festivities than at the Festival Quarter located within the historic walls of the National Museum of Ireland – Decorative Arts and History, Collins Barracks. From March 16th to 17th, this hub will come alive with a plethora of entertainment, workshops, food, and more, making certain that each and every guest has a wonderful time.
Festival Quarter Saturday 16th
Kickstarting the weekend, Saturday at the Festival Quarter is all about embracing the spirit of Irish culture. From traditional music to contemporary performances, there’s something for everyone. The expansive An Halla Mór (Main Stage) sets the scene for spectacular acts such as Síolta Circus and Tumble Circus, captivating audiences with their awe-inspiring performances. Meanwhile, Grooveline, Code of Behaviour, and others keep the tunes flowing in the Ruaille Buaille Tent, ensuring a lively atmosphere throughout the day.
For those with a taste for adventure, the Afro Dance workshops offer a chance to groove to the rhythm, while families can bond over games and activities at the Súgradh area. And let’s not forget the culinary delights awaiting at Bia Tapa and Bia Mall, showcasing the finest Irish food producers for a true taste of the Emerald Isle.
Festival Quarter Sunday 17th
On St. Patrick’s Day itself, the Festival Quarter comes alive with a whirlwind of Irish culture and festivities. From noon until 10:30 pm, the grounds of Collins Barracks will resonate with the sounds of traditional music, céilí dancing, and collaborations that celebrate Ireland’s rich heritage.
The highlight of the day is undoubtedly the world-famous Céilí Mór on the Main Stage, where attendees can dance the afternoon away under the guidance of Dearbhla Lennon. Music enthusiasts will be treated to performances by Faró, Louise Mulcahy, Ispíní na hÉireann, and more, culminating in a set by Denise Chaila and friends that promises to reinvent traditional Irish music in unexpected ways.
Throughout the day, the Rí Rá Bandstand will keep the energy high with performances by Alfi, Mo Cultivation, Trá Pháidín, and others, while An Tigín offers a cosy retreat with appearances by the Baltimore Fiddle Fair and other traditional acts.
