Ireland’s Most Anticipated St. Patrick’s Day Parades

This year the St. Patrick’s festival returns after a two year break and is going to be bigger and better than ever before. It will be a four-day weekend dedicated to celebrating Ireland and all that it has to offer. Here are some of the St. Patrick’s Day parades for 17 March, we’re most excited for this year:

Ireland’s Most Anticipated St. Patrick’s Day Parades

Firstly, we have to kick off this list with a mention of our fair city, Dublin. The Dublin parade will make its way from Parnell Square to St. Stephen’s Green with a brand new vision. It will outshine any parade the city has seen previously. Coordinated by an array of talented artists, performers, choreographers, designers and more, this year’s event will be broadcast live on RTÉ.

Irish sportswomen, Ellen Keane and Kellie Harrington have been announced as Grand Marshals for this year’s parade. The pair competed in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics and Olympics respectively, and we can’t think of anyone better to represent Ireland this year.

The Cork City St. Patrick’s Day Parade returns this year to bring colour and Irish spirit to the streets of Cork. This year’s theme is ‘HEROES: Ordinary People in Extraordinary Times’, featuring members of the local communities from all backgrounds.

From sporting groups to dance schools, new communities and the long-running Cork brass bands –as well as special guests from across the world– this year’s festival promises to be a memorable one. The city will also be turning green this year in celebration of our patron saint. Over 40 buildings across the city will light up during this year’s St. Patrick’s Festival week, from Blackrock to Blarney and Ballincollig to Ballyvolane.

Galway’s St. Patrick’s Day parade is always one to look forward to – showcasing a huge range of talent and creativity from local artists and community groups. The St. Patrick’s Day parade will make its way through the city centre, so find a spot and enjoy from the sidelines. Creating an unbeatably lively atmosphere are many of Galway’s own, including local community, cultural and sporting groups – as well as some fantastic international groups.

This year’s parade also sees the return of the incredible Macnas Young Ensemble, known for its outstanding Macnas Parade. This highly anticipated parade will feature many spectacular creations, including the flowery giant owl, with accompaniment from the next generation Macnas Drummers and performers.

We love a visit to Killarney, with lots to do and see across the town – and we’re so excited to see what this year’s parade has in store. The parade’s theme is “Earth” (“An Chré” in Irish), and it will be celebrating all of the wonderful things that mother nature has to offer.

The ‘Green Theme’ aims to draw attention to the very serious issue of climate change. However, it will ultimately be a joyous celebration of the earth – highlighting all the amazing and exciting aspects of the planet we live on. With fantastic performances, fabulous creations and lots of fun and vibrancy, Killarney’s parade promises to bring a smile to the faces of all who attend.

Belfast is starting it’s St. Patrick’s Celebrations early, kicking it all off with an outdoor concert on the evening of Wednesday 16 March. The city is set to come to life with colour and creativity in celebration of our patron saint. With plenty of events happening across the weekend, there’ll be no shortage of exciting things to see and do.

The reinvented St. Patrick’s Day parade will highlight all of the fun, culture and theatrics that Belfast has to offer. With help from local artists and communities, you can look forward to a fantastic day of celebration this year.

No matter where you are in Ireland, there will be a parade nearby. Where will you be spending Paddy’s Day this year? Let us know on FacebookTwitter or Instagram.
